The

BOTANIST'S

LEGACY

Yarra Yering is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Established in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, the 1973 vintage saw production of the first vintage of Dry Red Wine No. 1 and Dry Red Wine No. 2. Yarra Yering quickly gained an international reputation for quality and individuality and paved the way for other Yarra Valley wineries.

Naturally low yields ranging from a mere 1 to 2 tonnes per acre.

With the luxury of time, quality is prioritised above all else.

The unique ability of Cabernet Sauvignon to unite the contrasts of perfumed lightness with deep concentration, grace with structure and elegance with enduring longevity is unparalleled in the wine world. Its finest expressions are at once emphatically fragrant and lighter than air and yet deeper, more concentrated, more enduring and more structured. No Australian wine of modern era exemplifies this profound juxtaposition more emphatically than Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 2021. —Tyson Stelzer

Andrew George, Vineyard Manager

Andrew is a seasoned grape grower with over 23 years of experience. Yarra Valley born and bred; he studied Production Horticulture at Dookie College before pursuing a career in grape-growing. After honing his expertise over ten years at Yeringberg, he moved to Yarra Yering in 2012. The most challenging part of his job is dealing with weather, which is why he has an unhealthy amount of weather apps on his phone. Despite the challenges, Andrew loves seeing the finished wine from the grapes that he grows.

Ben Buckingham, Winemaker

Ben got his start in the wine industry working in retail at Blackhearts and Sparrows in 2012 where his passion for wine bloomed, spurring a move into wine production. After spending two years at Witchmount Estate in the vineyard, he moved to the cellar in 2016, before trying his hand in whiskey production at The Gospel. Ben started at Yarra Yering in 2018 as a vintage casual, followed by an international vintage in the Napa Valley before returning for the 2019 vintage. He then spent a year working with Andrew George in the vineyard, before being promoted to Assistant Winemaker. Ben’s favourite part of the job is working with the team who he describes as ‘a good hang’. He attributes their ability to create exceptional wine, whilst still enjoying themselves, to the strong leadership abilities of Sarah and Andrew.

George Telehin, Vineyard

George worked as a laboratory technician for over nine years before moving to Yarra Yering on the 4th April 1982. He initially offered his services as a laboratory technician to our founder, Dr. Bailey Carrodus, however, Dr. Carrodus said he didn’t need one – so George was sent to work in the vineyard instead. Having racked up an enormous 40+ vintages at Yarra Yering, George says the only thing that is the same, is that every vintage is different. George is an avid lover of the outdoors, and when he’s not in the vineyard he is often found bush walking, fishing or taking photos of nature.
